Vocational Workshops in Woodworking, Timber Framing, and Joinery for Active and Veteran Military
During the two-year building process of the Viking Hall and Boat Shelter, we will be offering vocational training in timber framing, joinery, and carpentry skills through a minimum of two full-day workshops. We held one on 14 June 2025 and on 10 January 2026. This approach is like that we used when we built our Viking boat and boatbuilding workshops for Veterans in Connecticut. We have also practiced these skills at our Viking Camp building footbridges and carving Viking tent poles. Leetes Island Boatworks and their sister company Handlavet (meaning handmade in Danish) were our boatbuilders and will be the lead on the Viking Hall and Boat Shelter. They are European trained craftsmen. They have a fully equipped warehouse/construction facility in Connecticut perfectly suited for these workshops. The target audience is for 20 active and Veteran military to attend each of the four training sessions.
The training days are typically be on a Saturday and include coffee, water, lunch, and a light dinner provided to Veterans. Odin’s Warrior Tribe members act as hosts. Some of these events will also feature lectures by authorities on the Viking age, to include Viking age halls and longhouses. Through these workshops we will focus on talent development, skills building, and seek to inspire Veterans to pursue either timber framing as a career or even hobby.
When completed the Viking Hall and Boat Shelter parts will be transported to Maryland and rise at our Viking Camp with access to the Potomac River close to the Chesapeake Bay.
There will be a large two-week workshop in the fall of 2026.
