AFTER-ACTION REPORT: Viking Hall Building Event on January 10, 2026 – Branford, Connecticut

On January 10, 2026, Odin’s Warrior Tribe conducted a highly successful Viking Hall Building event in Branford, Connecticut. The event brought together over 22 veterans, along with active-duty personnel and approved civilian supporters, for a full day of hands-on construction, instruction, and fellowship.

Attendance & Instruction

The event was supported by three experienced instructors, including master craftsmen affiliated with Leetes Island Boatworks and Handlavet. Participants received practical instruction in traditional timber-framing techniques inspired by Viking-era construction methods. Instruction emphasized teamwork, precision, safety, and historical authenticity.

We were also honored to host Dr. William Short, founder of Hurstwic and co-author of Men of Terror. Dr. Short provided historical context regarding Viking Halls, their social and cultural significance, and their role as centers of leadership, community, and warrior fellowship.

Event Highlights

  • Morning coffee and orientation beginning at 0900

  • Full-day hall construction activities

  • Instruction in traditional timber framing techniques

  • Strong veteran participation and engagement

  • Lunch provided (sandwiches and refreshments)

  • Afternoon advanced skill development

  • Evening small-group dinner for interested prospects and close friends of the Tribe

The smaller dinner gathering allowed for meaningful discussion with individuals interested in either joining Odin’s Warrior Tribe or deepening their involvement as close supporters. The setting fostered authentic connection and continued dialogue about mission, heritage, and long-term vision.

Overall Assessment

The January hall-building event was a fantastic success. Participation exceeded expectations, morale was high, and the combination of physical labor, historical education, and fellowship strengthened both the project and the community behind it.

Momentum from this event now informs next steps. The Tribe is evaluating the potential for an additional hall-building event in the near term. Alternatively, planning may focus on a larger-scale hall raising projected for mid-October 2026 at the Tribe’s camp in Maryland, potentially spanning several weeks to include construction activities, fellowship, and associated programming.
