Odin's Warrior Tribe — Great Viking Hall Raising

After years of planning, preparation, fundraising, and determination, the moment is nearly upon us.

On November 2, 2026, Odin's Warrior Tribe will begin raising its Great Viking Hall in Southern Maryland.

Our builders arrive November 1, and work begins the following morning. What has existed for years in drawings, engineering plans, timber workshops, and the imagination of our Tribe will finally begin taking shape on the land.

This is more than a construction project. It is the creation of a permanent gathering place for our Norse and Germanic Heathen faith, our military and veteran community, our families, and future generations.

And we invite you to be part of it.

The Foundation Is Ready. The Timbers Are Prepared.

An enormous amount of work has already been completed. The land has been prepared, the building site leveled, drainage established, and the foundation area made ready for the raising. Required permits and site approvals are in place, and environmental controls have been established.

Meanwhile, in Connecticut, our timber-frame builders have been preparing the great structural components of the Hall.

The massive posts, beams, curved structural members, and joinery have been carefully fabricated and fitted in preparation for transportation to Southern Maryland.

This is traditional timber-frame craftsmanship on an extraordinary scale.

The Hall will measure approximately 56 feet long and 28 feet wide at its broadest point, with a distinctive curved form inspired by the great halls of the Viking Age.

Five major structural bents will define the building, supported by massive timbers and carefully engineered connections.

Inside, the Hall will eventually feature raised side platforms, long tables and benches, carved pillars, shields, tapestries, a central hearth, and space for more than 100 people to gather for feasts, ceremonies, education, and fellowship.

The Hall is intended to be both beautiful and functional: a sacred gathering place and a living center of community.

November 2–6: The Raising Begins

The first days will be devoted to receiving the structural components, preparing the site, organizing equipment, and beginning the assembly and raising process.

Our advance crew will work alongside the professional builders as the Hall begins to take shape.

These early days will involve substantial physical labor, careful coordination, and the precise placement of heavy structural timbers.

As the week progresses, more members and volunteers will arrive, and the pace of activity will increase.

Thursday, November 5, will mark our opening evening of fellowship, followed by a special wedding feast on Friday, November 6.

Then comes our first major public participation day.

Saturday, November 7 — Viking Day and Hall Raising

November 7 will be one of the great gathering days of the entire project.

Members of Odin's Warrior Tribe, their families, and eligible guests from the active-duty and veteran military community are invited to join us.

Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the raising of the Great Viking Hall, meet members of the Tribe, learn about the project, and participate in a day of Viking activities and fellowship.

Planned activities include:

  • Viking longship sailing, weather and crew permitting

  • Archery

  • Axe throwing

  • Traditional games and activities

  • Fellowship with military veterans and members of the Tribe

  • Opportunities to observe the Hall construction

  • A common evening meal

  • Evening blót and sumbl for eligible participants

  • Campfire fellowship

  • Camping for those remaining overnight

Our Viking longships, Sæ Úlfr and Sæ Hrafn, are planned to sail during the gathering, subject to weather, water conditions, and operational availability.

We hope to have both vessels sailing together, offering participants a memorable experience on the waters of Southern Maryland.

The day's activities will provide an opportunity to experience the fellowship, traditions, and spirit of Odin's Warrior Tribe while witnessing an important milestone in our history.

November 8–13 — The Work Continues

Following the first major weekend, construction will continue throughout the week.

There will be considerable work to accomplish as the structural frame is completed and additional elements of the building are prepared.

Volunteers will assist with appropriate tasks under the direction of the builders and site leadership.

There will also be opportunities for fellowship, evening meals, and time around the campfire.

The Great Viking Hall will not be completed in two weeks. The raising is a major milestone, but additional roofing, finishing, interior work, and other improvements will follow.

Nevertheless, by the end of the gathering, we expect the Hall to have undergone a remarkable transformation.

Saturday, November 14 — The Hallowing of the Great Viking Hall

November 14 will be the second major gathering day and one of the most significant days in the history of Odin's Warrior Tribe.

Following nearly two weeks of construction, we plan to conduct the sacred hallowing of the Great Viking Hall.

This ceremony will mark the dedication of the Hall to the Old Gods and to its future purpose as a gathering place for our faith and community.

We are honored to anticipate the participation of distinguished friends and scholars of Norse history and tradition, including Dr. William Short of and Reynir Óskarsson of Hurstwic.

Members, families, and eligible military and veteran guests are invited to join us for the day's activities, fellowship, and celebration.

Weather permitting, longship sailing will again be planned, alongside archery, axe throwing, games, a common meal, and evening fellowship.

The hallowing will be a solemn and meaningful occasion, conducted with the dignity and reverence appropriate to our faith.

As always, Odin's Warrior Tribe respects the sacred character and privacy of its religious ceremonies.

A Hall for the Tribe, Veterans, and Future Generations

Why undertake something of this magnitude? Because community requires more than words. It requires places where people gather, where traditions are practiced, where friendships are strengthened, and where the next generation can learn from those who came before. Odin's Warrior Tribe is a recognized nonprofit Norse and Germanic Heathen religious organization serving a community rooted in military service, law enforcement, first responders, and their families.

Our Great Viking Hall will support religious ceremonies, educational programs, veteran fellowship, historical activities, feasts, weddings, and gatherings throughout the year.

It will provide a permanent home for many of the activities that have helped our Tribe grow.

For veterans in particular, fellowship and shared purpose are essential. The Hall will be a place where bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood can continue long after military service has ended.

And for our children, it will be a place to encounter the traditions, history, and values that we seek to preserve.

We are not simply building a structure. We are building something intended to endure.

The Final Push — We Still Need $40,000

Although we have made tremendous progress, the financial challenge is not over.

Thanks to the generosity of our members, supporters, donors, and fundraising partners, we have been able to move forward with the timber frame, site preparation, and many essential elements of construction.

However, we are still seeking approximately $40,000, principally to complete funding for the Hall's cedar-shingle roofing and its installation.

The Hall's distinctive curved roof requires specialized materials and skilled installation. We have selected custom cedar shingles appropriate to the architectural character of the building, and substantial work remains to make the roof weather-tight and complete.

This $40,000 fundraising objective does not include several major interior elements still to be funded, including:

  • The central Hall fire pit and hearth system

  • The long tables and benches

  • Additional interior furnishings and finishing work

These will require further funding as the project advances. For now, our priority is clear: raise the Hall, protect the structure, and complete the roof.

We welcome contributions of any size.

Every donation helps us move closer to completing a permanent home for the Tribe and the community it serves.

Supporters can also help by sharing our campaign, encouraging friends to contribute, and participating in our fundraising activities.

Come and Be Part of History — November 7 and 14

We especially encourage eligible visitors to join us for the two major gathering days:

Saturday, November 7 — Viking Day and Hall Raising

Saturday, November 14 — Hall Hallowing and Celebration

Both days will offer opportunities to experience the activities, fellowship, and traditions of Odin's Warrior Tribe.

Advance registration is required. Event information, participation requirements, and registration details are available through the link below.

Whether you come to help raise the Hall, sail aboard a Viking longship, participate in activities, support our fundraising, or simply share fellowship, you will be part of an extraordinary undertaking.

The Time Has Come

For years, we have talked about this Hall. We have planned, designed, engineered, negotiated, raised funds, overcome obstacles, and continued moving forward. Now the timbers are ready. The site is prepared. Our builders are coming. And in two weeks, the Great Viking Hall begins to rise.

We extend our sincere thanks to every member, volunteer, donor, craftsman, foundations, and supporters who has helped bring us to this point.

There is still much to accomplish, but together we have already achieved something remarkable.

Come to us and begin the journey.

Komið til okkar og hefjið ferðina.
